New to First Baptist Church
A Message from Pastor Tom Odom
Our prayer is that this website will be a helpful tool as you seek the Lord's leading in your life. The Lord led my family and me to FBC in March of 2008. We love serving God in beautiful South Florida and thank Him for the people that He has called us to reach. First Baptist Church is a place where the Word of God is promoted and proclaimed in love. We have taken as a church motto, "The Church with a Heart in the Heart of South Florida." We believe that at the "heart" of it all should be a love for God and a love for people (Matthew 22:37-40). We are thankful for the love that God has given us for Him, for our church family and for our community.
First Baptist Church...
- Loving Jesus Christ through worship and praise
- Loving God's Word through discipleship
- Loving each other through fellowship
- Loving our community through service
- Loving our world through missions
I invite you to attend one of our services in the near future and see what our great God is doing here at FBC!

Visiting First Baptist Church
What can I expect to find at First Baptist Church?
You can expect to find a warm welcome and personal assistance. You can expect the Bible to be taught and preached as the inerrant and infallible Word of God. You can expect enthusiastic singing of the great hymns of our faith. You can expect music from our choirs, groups, instrumentalists and individuals that honors Christ; preparing the heart for worship and the ministry of the Word of God. You can expect to find a church that contends for the faith once delivered to the saints as its sacred heritage.
You can expect to find a Bible-teaching Sunday School class for every member of your family. You can expect to find a church family that prays for each others’ needs. You can expect to find a place to serve Christ in the ministry of this local church. You can expect to find a church advancing in the work God has given it to do, both in our community and around the world.
Where do I take my children?
Starting with our happy nursery, there is a class tailored with each child in mind. The nursery is provided for children three years old and under. You will find our nurseries to be clean, safe, caring and staffed by people who love the Lord. For older children through sixth grade, you can expect exciting Sunday School classes followed by Children's Church specifically geared to teach them about God's Word.
What about my teens?
We have Sunday School classes for middle school and high school. Each class is Christ-centered and tailored to meet the ever changing needs of today’s teenagers. They will join you in the main morning worship service following their Sunday School classes.
How should I dress?
There is no dress code at First Baptist Church for visitors or guests. Our ministry leaders and many of our church family dress in more traditional “Sunday Best”. Our main goal is that you would feel welcome and at home on your visit to FBC!

The history of First Baptist Church is a story of God's grace and blessings. Our history is truly HIS-story! On the last Sunday in August of 1966 a small group of faithful people assembled together in Southwest Broward county with a desire to serve God and to reach their community and their world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. A few years later, in the fall of 1973, the church called Dr. Michie Proctor as pastor. He served the Lord here faithfully for over 34 years and was called home to Heaven on March 1, 2008 after a 9 year battle with cancer. Through those years, as the culture and landscape of South Florida changed, Dr. Proctor held to the unchanging doctrines of the Word of God and faithfully proclaimed the message of Jesus Christ. On March 30, 2008, the church called Tom Odom to be the next pastor. Since that time the church has experienced great growth and built an 18,000 square foot sanctuary building housing several classrooms and offices. This is phase 1 of a 5-phase expansion plan. Though many years have past since that last Sunday in August of 1966, our missions remains the same: To exalt the Savior, to evangelize sinners and to encourage, edify, enlist and engage the saints! At FBC we believe the future is as bright as the promises of God. We know that our great God is still at work and we believe that the greatest days of our ministry are still ahead. To God be the glory!
